Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes—most likely. Ultimate Rod Racks have been engineered to fit a wide range of New Zealand aluminium boats, with solutions available for brands including StabicraftĀ®, SenatorĀ®, SurteesĀ®, FC BoatsĀ®, ExtremeĀ®, FrewzaĀ®, ProfileĀ®, McLayĀ®, RamcoĀ® and many more.

Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution, we match the correct mounting system to your boat's gunnel design. If your boat isn't listed, simply tell us your make and model and we'll recommend the best configuration.

  • Our Shop by Boatā„¢ guide takes the guesswork out of choosing the right rod rack.

Simply select your boat make and model, and we'll recommend the correct rack, backframe and mounting system based on your boat's gunnel geometry. If your boat isn't listed, just contact us and we'll help you find the best fit.

  • In 99% of installations, no. In fact, that's the whole philosophy behind Ultimate Rod Racks.

Our GunnelCoreā„¢ mounting systems are engineered to work with your boat's existing rod holder pockets and gunnel geometry, meaning most installations require no drilling or permanent modifications.

If your boat requires a specialised bracket or mounting solution, we'll advise you before you purchase.

  • Every boat is built differently, so Ultimate Rod Racks offers several GunnelCoreā„¢ mounting options to achieve the best fit.

Hybridā„¢ is designed for deeper or irregular gunnel pockets where additional stand-off is required.
SLR Low Riderā„¢ is designed for shallow, straight or low-profile gunnel pockets where the rack needs to sit closer to the boat.
GunnelCoreā„¢ is the engineering platform behind our interchangeable backframe systems, allowing us to match the correct configuration to your boat.

Our Shop by Boatā„¢ guide will recommend the right system for your boat.

  • Yes. Ultimate Rod Racks are proudly designed, engineered and manufactured in New Zealand.

Every rack has been developed specifically for New Zealand boats, boating conditions and fishing styles. We use quality marine-grade materials and components to produce durable rod storage systems built to withstand the harsh marine environment.

Although designed for Kiwi boaties, Ultimate Rod Racks are now trusted by customers throughout New Zealand, Australia and beyond.

  • Yes. If you've ordered your Ultimate Rod Rack through our Shop by Boatā„¢ system, it will arrive pre-configured for your boat, meaning no tools are normally required for installation.

Every rack is supplied ready to fit using the recommended GunnelCoreā„¢ configuration for your boat. Simply position the rack and secure it in place.

If you'd like to fine-tune the rack to suit your personal preference or fishing setup, simple hand tools can be used to adjust the backframe position and take advantage of the full adjustability built into the GunnelCoreā„¢ system.

Should you have any questions during installation, we're only a phone call or email away and are always happy to help.

  • Yes. One of the advantages of the Ultimate Rod Racks system is that it can be removed when required.

Many customers remove their rack for cleaning, winter storage or when using their boat for family activities, then simply reinstall it before their next fishing trip.

  • Absolutely. Protecting your fishing gear has always been a key part of the Ultimate Rod Racks design philosophy.

Our Rod Protection & Stabilisation Systemsā„¢ include products such as the DeckLineā„¢ Lock Insert, Adaptive Base Protector and Game Wedge Stabiliser, helping reduce rod movement, minimise vibration and improve rod security while travelling on and off the water.

  • Every fishing rod and reel combination is different, so we can't guarantee that every reel will clear the side of every boat without the correct setup.

Ultimate Rod Racks are available with 100mm or 150mm rod centres, depending on the model. These spacings have been carefully engineered to provide the best balance between reel clearance, rod capacity and overall rack length. Increasing the spacing further would make the rack significantly longer and less practical for use in most boats.

It's also worth remembering that not all rod butts and reel seats are the same length. Unless you're carrying several identical rod and reel combinations, the reels naturally sit at different heights and positions, which greatly reduces the chance of them contacting each other or the side of the boat.

If you're carrying larger reels, you can also leave an empty space between outfits to provide additional clearance where required.

For maximum protection and stability, we recommend our Rod Protection & Stabilisation Systemsā„¢, including the DeckLineā„¢ Lock Insert, Adaptive Base Protector and Game Wedge Stabiliser, which help minimise movement and improve rod positioning during transport.

If you're unsure which rod rack or spacing is best for your fishing setup, simply let us know what rods and reels you use, and we'll recommend the most suitable configuration.

  • Yes. Ultimate Rod Racks offer solutions for everything from light tackle spinning outfits through to heavy game fishing equipment.

Thanks to our GunnelCoreā„¢ mounting technology, we can fit our Game Series rod racks to nearly every boat model we've developed a mounting solution for. This means many of the same boats that can be fitted with our Core Series rod racks can also be equipped with dedicated Game Series systems for bent butt game rods, electric reels and larger offshore fishing outfits.

Whether you're targeting snapper inshore or heading offshore chasing marlin and tuna, we can recommend the right rod rack configuration to suit your boat and your style of fishing.

If you're unsure which system is right for your setup, simply let us know your boat make and model along with the rods and reels you use, and we'll recommend the best Ultimate Rod Racks solution.

  • In most cases, yes.

Because every boat is different, clearance can vary depending on your clears, bait board, rocket launcher or other accessories. That's why we recommend the correct GunnelCoreā„¢ configuration based on your boat model and existing setup.

If you have aftermarket accessories fitted, simply let us know and we'll ensure the recommended rack will work with your boat.

  • Yes. Ultimate Rod Racks are designed as a modular system.

Replacement backframes, mounting hardware and many accessories are available separately, allowing you to upgrade your rack as your needs change. We also continue to support many earlier Ultimate Rod Rack models, including limited availability of CNC-machined Rod Lock fittings for compatible pre-2022 racks.

If you're unsure which generation of rack you have, simply send us a photo and we'll identify it for you.
